NERF Rayven Commando by MarcWF NERF Rayven Commando by MarcWF
Finally getting some paint on stuff again.

Raven Commando - 8.4v upgrade, Recon barrel, folding foregrip, extra clip, weapon sling.

With the 8.4v upgrade range is barely affected by barrel - you lose maybe a couple feet, but gain some accuracy.

Love it! Want to customize mine now!

How did you do the folding handle?

Thanks! Google "Airsoft folding foregrip" - I think I grabbed mine from Ebay. It fit over the NERF rail -- but I had to really crank the allen bolt down tight to make it snug.

I can definitely make another! This one was the old green N-strike Rayven. The new Elite Rayven shoots twice as far.

Nice! I tried using 12.6v in these things, but you can smell the motor burning after one clip. The 8.4v setup helps the motor last longer...

Hey how much do you want for those webbing thigh carriers and will it be the same for the Molle carriers?

The thigh ones cost more due to the 2" and 1" buckles -- and the velcro belt attachment parts. All of those components equal more parts and labor. Once I get a rivet press it should cut down on labor -- but I'll never really be able to compete with China or other countries when it comes to cheap gear.

Well you could make stuff cheaper if you could lose the touch of death with regard to sewing machines. The buckles and such are worth it, especially since the thigh carrier isnt on another platform. You always want to be able to cut any piece of equipment loose if you get hung up. the molle or belt carriers you can ditch the rig. The thigh carrier you can't exactly ditch your thigh. those buckles are worth it.

lol - friggin sewing machine! I am pondering whether to get it repaired or simply donate it to somebody as-is... I almost drop kicked it down the street out of frustration.

With the rayvens diminuative nose it needs a barrel extention & a vertical grip. Glad you did the black/green colour combo. I found out myself that having it plain green just looked too plasticky.

I thought about extending the black along the bottom of the Recon barrel. I still wasn't brave enough to do camo on it yet - still experimenting and perfecting techniques.

I'd have done what i did on "dirty Gerty" mk34, & chopped off the top rail & put a sheet of flat card on it & painted flat black as an anti-sun glare feature, instead of painting the bottom rail black. You could just paint both top & bottom rails flat black, but then you'd have to paint the one on the carry/sightrail too.

Makes more practical sense as an anti-glare feature. Initially I was thinking of the black as some kind of faux-rubberized grip material, to match the flat black of the foregrip. Like you mentioned, the solid green looked too fake.

I think I might just have to paint the rails now like you suggested - it would look a lot better overall.

The rails would need to be Tac-black metal rather than rubber. That's why i always give mine a 'scraping' with good old Humbrol 11 regardless of if i've painted them gun metal, tank grey, or black.

Grubbying up a gun that's all one colour helps it look less fake. I know it's a lot of wasted paint but i overspray (at a distance) with a mix of colours to give it a dusty/sooty look. Helps things look a bit more natural rather than straight off the production line.

They look really bland and even fake with the simple one color paint job - I'll have to experiment with dusting with the overspray. What colors do you use - browns?

Sand, darkish brown, sea grey, then matt black. Sometimes i'll use red primer too, or maybe metallic blue.

How i do it is very short 'Phhtts' of the spraycan all over rather than one long burst all along it. The gun should be at the distance of the spray almost being dry as it lands. Also you can modify the density by simply doing parts closer (why it's better for short bursts of spray rather than long). When done closer you'll have a couple of seconds to smear/smudge the dusting too.

Thanks man! I may be overdoing it with the folding foregrips - I obtained a batch and keep sticking them on everything. I want to sink one into a Swarmfires cavernous battery compartment so that it sits relatively flush when folded up -- making room in the compartment by converting power to AA cells.

Keep on it, I freakin' love those things. Looks especially good on this one, I think, as a balance to the large back of the body.

I've seen guides on a few of ways to increase power to the pinch wheels on the Rayven. Which method did you use? Add extra batteries inside the frame? Use higher voltage cells? Remove resistors from the circuit? Or wire in the magazine batteries to the circuit?

Just batteries; using two 3.7v Lithium batteries charged to 4.2v, along with some dummy batteries.

I originally read about the mod from SG Nerf at Mod Works - he even went up to 16.8v in his tests. The higher voltage causes misfires and I would bet shortens the motor life considerably. I am hoping the limited 8.4v upgrade will last for several months or more... optimally for 12 months.

hows the Voltage upgrade work? I recently re-wired the battery case for the Nerf Vulcan from parallel to a series and it upped voltage a little but i dunno much more on what i can do without melting the motors.
